The Reign of Colette Paris Ends After 20 Years

Colette, the trendiest store in the world, closes after 20 years in the business due to Ms. Colette Roussaux's retirement. The Parisian concept store was started in 1997 by Colette Rousseaux and her daughter, Sarah Andelman, and has become one of fashion industry's favorite family businesses.

The three-story space located on Rue Saint-Honoré is frequently visited by editors and designers for inspiration throughout each fashion season. Over the years, Colette has accrued a cult following of the world's trendiest buyers, designers, and celebrities due to its incredible selection of merchandise. Karl Lagerfeld said that it's the only shop he'll frequent because "they have things no one else has." You can find virtually anything in the store, from furniture to jewelry, to luxury menswear and women's apparel mixed amongst streetwear and electronics. Over the years, the store has partnered with brands such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Ikea, Hermès, Coco-Cola, and even Vans to name just a few.

Colette embraces the unexpected and prides itself on its unique, whimsical style. There's even a restaurant in the lower level of the store that carries over 100 brands of bottled water from around the world. Colette was one of the first stores to cater to an aesthetic lifestyle, which raises a bit of a question for the future of such "concept stores." Saint Laurent, one of their collaborative brands is said to take over the covetable space after Colette's close this December.
